A two-minute check

Is it really 90%?

List the tasks of one project and how big each one is. Tick what is finished. You will see progress counted two ways, and what is really left.

Your project

Size can be days, hours or points. Use the same unit for every task.

1How to use it

Write every task of the project, one per line. Give each task a size: days, hours or points. Any unit works, as long as it is the same for all tasks.

Tick a task only when it is fully finished. A task that is half done counts as open.

2How it is counted

By tasks done is finished tasks divided by all tasks.

18 of 20 tasks = 90%

Weighted by effort is the size of the finished tasks divided by the size of all tasks.

18 of 30 days = 60%

3Why the two numbers differ

The first number treats a one-day task and an eight-day task the same. The second does not.

In the bars, each block is one task. On top all blocks have the same width. Below, the width is the size of the task.

Close numbers: your tasks are similar in size. First one much higher: the big tasks are still open.
